Back in the Lions Den

Back in the Lions Den

Wednesday night, that was a night I won’t soon forget. On the one hand, I was back in my element at the Meridian Centre, providing the entertainment for the Niagara River Lions during their exhibition game against the Raptors 905. On the other hand, I was proud to be supporting the incredible Wise Guys Charity and entertaining a phenomenal high energy crowd!

When the River Lions management team asked if I would be interested in participating in this game, I was humbled to say the least, and, very quickly, agreed! Not only did I love working with the River Lions last season during their inaugural season, but I have also worked with Doug Smith and the Wise Guys Charity in the past and love their desire, drive, and passion for the community. For those of you that don’t know what the Wise Guys Charity does, they distribute funds to areas where they see need across the Niagara Region, so having the opportunity to help them achieve their goals was something I knew I had to be part of.

In the lead up to the event, it felt very much like Christmas – I was living in constant anticipation, full of excited energy! On game day, I was able to transform this excited energy into my own kind of game focus, ensuring that I was ready to go with the flow, embracing whatever happened within (and beyond) the event plan created by the entire organization team.

If you were to ask me what happened on the court, I couldn’t really tell you. I spent the game focused on the job at hand and ensuring that every single person in attendance was having an amazing time. During a game like this, I’m making a decision every 30 seconds and need to be adaptable at a moment’s notice. Of course I stole a few moments to look around and take in the atmosphere, but then it was right back to playing your next request and testing out those perfect new sound effects.

Beyond just what was happening in the Meridian Centre, the buzz on social media before, during, and after the game was incredible! I read each and every message and am so thankful for all of the support that I received – the games are nowhere near as fun without all of you there lifting the energy up!

At the end of the day, I had the opportunity to be part of a record breaking crowd (3.364 fans) and helped to raise $13,250 for the Wise Guys Charity – to say I was blown away would be an absolute understatement! Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Meridian Centre and the Raptors 905 for bringing their talents to St. Catharines! We’re just 45 days away from the start of the NBL Canada season, and 46 days away from once again having River Lions fans fill the Lions Den and let me just say that I cannot wait!
